John 15:1-5
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch of mine that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
We are connected to the Vine. He has grafted us in. All our strength and life comes directly from Him. He is the reason we can produce fruit! He is the source of our growth. Anything that is done apart from His strength cannot produce fruit. It cannot bring glory to Him. Everything must be down through His strength, for His glory.
It appears so easy. We are told to abide in Christ. Really, how hard can it be? Have you tried? Have you tried going to Him in prayer about everything? Have you tried confessing your need for His strength to accomplish even the smallest tasks? When was the last time you thanks God for giving you the ability to brush your teeth? How about thanking Him for allowing you to be able to chew your food? Tie your shoe. Say "hello." Hug your child. Drive a car. Sing a song. How about when was the last time you asked for strength to encourage someone at church? Be a witness at work? Have devotions with your family?
Are you living a connected life?
