While walking along the ocean in Trujillo, we came across a fisherman. Looking down at his dirty hands, old clothes, and shabby tools a truth came back to my mind.
Matthew 4:18-24
While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Have you ever thought of the the people who Jesus really called to change the world? He didn't call any politicians, nor lawyers, nor priest, nor teachers. He did not seek out the most educated, most talented, or even the most godly. At least four of them were fishermen. They were blue collar workers asked to follow the Son of God. They were fiery tempered, selfish, big headed, and obstinate men, but He decided that a few months with Him, a miraculous indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and some persecution would be good enough to prepare them to turn the world upside down (Acts 17:6) and take the gospel to the ends of the world. From everyone's point of view they had nothing to offer and nowhere to go, and that is just the people He loves to use.

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. (Philippians 3:8)
